Our Scripture Readings for Today:
1st Reading – Romans 4:20-25
Brothers and sisters:
20 In the Promise of God, Abraham did not hesitate out of distrust, but instead, he was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
21 knowing most fully that whatever God has promised, he is also able to accomplish.
22 And for this reason, it was reputed to him unto justice.
23 Now this has been written, that it was reputed to him unto justice, not only for his sake,
24 but also for our sake. For the same shall be reputed to us, if we believe in him who raised up our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead,
25 who was handed over because of our offenses, and who rose again for our justification.
Responsorial Psalm – Luke 1:69-70, 71-72, 73-75
R. (see 68) Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to his people.
69 He has come to his people and set them free.
70 He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
R. Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to his people.
71 Through his holy prophets he promised of old that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
72 He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
R. Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to his people.
73 This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
74 to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship him without fear,
75 holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.
R. Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to his people.
Alleluia – Matthew 5:3
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel – Luke 12:13-21
13 Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”
14 He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”
15 Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”
16 Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.
17 He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’
18 And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods
19 and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”‘
20 But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’
21 Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”

Our SpeakChrist Reflection and Prayer
Dearest Father,
Today I would like to reflect on the rich man who seemingly is set for life. From
Luke 12:16 - 19
16 Then he (Jesus) told them a parable.
One of my heart's desires is to have £3 Million in reserve, £1 million for my personal expenses, £1 million for my business expenses, £1 million for miscellaneous expenses like pay off debts, medical expenses, and the like.
I found an investment vehicle, a Credit Union Cooperative that would give me at least 4-5% interest in a time deposit and if I have those amounts, I would receive monthly passive income so much more than my needs.
I would be set for life.
But today, you are reminding me that although You are capable of giving me my desires, You can make me rich beyond my wildest imagination, You want me not to set my trust and confidence in riches.
My focus should be to become rich in what matters to You.
Not like the rich fool in Luke 12:20-21:
Luke 12
20 But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’
21 Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”
The rich fool sought to store up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.
And what matters to God are only two things:
Love Him with all our hearts, mind, soul, and strength
Love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Matthew 22:36-39 GNBDK
[36] “Teacher,” he asked, “which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
[37] Jesus answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
[38] This is the greatest and the most important commandment.
[39] The second most important commandment is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’
If you want to store up treasure so you can love God more and love your neighbor more, that's a different story.
I've always heard of the stories of my favorite preachers like Gary Kasee, Kenneth Copeland, Jerry Savelle, and Jesse Duplantis who have been blessed so much materially that they're able to give so much whenever the Lord told them to give:
Give your airplane to this and that
Give your motorcycle to this person
Give your house to the ministry
Pay for this person's tuition or house payments
Pay off this church's mortgage
They have dedicated their finances to fund the assignments of God.
I want to be like them.
I want to have wealth so much that not only are my every conceivable need met but that I also have overflow and abundance for every good work.
I want to give 99% to fund the assignments of God in the world and bless billions of people but still live well off with 1%.
This was how much our ancestors of the faith were blessed.
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
Genesis 24:34-35 GNBDK
[34] “I am the servant of Abraham,” he began.
[35] “The LORD has greatly blessed my master (Abraham) and made him a rich man. He has given him flocks of sheep and goats, cattle, silver, gold, male and female slaves, camels, and donkeys.
That is our God's covenant of Blessing in action, first made with Abraham and renewed down to his descendants:
Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) 44:21-23 GNBDK
[21] And so the Lord made him a solemn promise that his descendants would be a blessing to the world; that their number would be countless, like the dust of the earth; that they would be honoured more than any other people on earth; and that their land would extend from sea to sea, from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth.
[22-23] The Lord renewed that covenant with Isaac, and then again with Jacob, repeating the promise that Abraham's descendants would be a blessing to the whole human race. The Lord assured Jacob that he would bless him; he gave him the land that would be his, dividing it into twelve parts, one for each of the tribes.
And that covenant of Blessing is ours too. If we believe and have faith like Abraham did.
Galatians 3:7-9 GNBDK
[7] You should realize then, that the real descendants of Abraham are the people who have faith.
[8] The scripture predicted that God would put the Gentiles right with himself through faith. And so the scripture announced the Good News to Abraham: “Through you God will bless the whole human race.”
[9] Abraham believed and was blessed; so all who believe are blessed as he was.
You and I have this covenant of Blessing.
You and I are called to be blessed by God so that God, through us, can bless the whole human race.
Now Your Turn
Spiritual Discipline for our Christian Life
Are you seeking to store up riches for yourself but are not rich in what matters to God? If God will demand your life today, are you ready to face him, having built treasures on earth that you can also bring to heaven?
God is not opposed to you being rich.
In fact, He wants to bless you so much so you can be a blessing to the whole human race.
His covenant of Blessing to our Father of the faith, Abraham, is also the covenant of Blessing He wants for you:
Genesis 12:2-3 GNBDK
[2] I will give you many descendants, and they will become a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous, so that you will be a blessing.
[3] I will bless those who bless you, But I will curse those who curse you. And through you I will bless all the nations.”
Also,
Genesis 17:3-4 GNBDK
[3] Abram bowed down with his face touching the ground, and God said,
[4] “I make this covenant with you: I promise that you will be the ancestor of many nations.
[6] I will give you many descendants, and some of them will be kings. You will have so many descendants that they will become nations.
[7] “I will keep my promise to you and to your descendants in future generations as an everlasting covenant. I will be your God and the God of your descendants.
[8] I will give to you and to your descendants this land in which you are now a foreigner. The whole land of Canaan will belong to your descendants for ever, and I will be their God.”
With this covenant of Blessing, Abraham became extremely wealthy.
His servant said of him:
Genesis 24:34-35 GNBDK
[34] “I am the servant of Abraham,” he began.
[35] “The LORD has greatly blessed my master (Abraham) and made him a rich man. He has given him flocks of sheep and goats, cattle, silver, gold, male and female slaves, camels, and donkeys.
And Abraham's son, Isaac, too, became extremely wealthy because God blessed him:
Genesis 26:12-14 GNBDK
[12] Isaac sowed seed in that land, and that year he harvested a hundred times as much as he had sown, because the LORD blessed him.
[13] He continued to prosper and became a very rich man.
[14] Because he had many herds of sheep and cattle and many servants, the Philistines were jealous of him.
If you believe and have faith in God like Abraham did, you are his descendant and entitled to the same Covenant of Blessing:
Galatians 3:7 GNBDK
[7] You should realize then, that the real descendants of Abraham are the people who have faith.
[9] Abraham believed and was blessed; so all who believe are blessed as he was.
Jesus sealed that covenant and made it permanent by His Blood shed on that Cross:
Galatians 3:14 GNBDK
[14] Christ did this in order that the blessing which God promised to Abraham might be given to the Gentiles by means of Christ Jesus, so that through faith we might receive the Spirit promised by God.
Jesus made that Covenant of Blessing, ours forever. In fact, He came for just that - to give us a rich life:
John 10:10 TPT
[10] A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect —life in its fullness until you overflow!
In Jesus, you have everything in abundance.
Just believe in Him like Abraham did.
Do not be like the rich fool who only sought to build up treasure for himself:
Do not be like that fool. Be rich in what matters to God:
And what matters to God are only two things:
Love Him with all your hearts, mind, soul, and strength
Love your neighbor as you love ourselves.
If you do this, if you love God above all else and love your neighbor as yourself daily in small and big ways, the Covenant of Blessing, sealed by the Blood of Jesus, will work for you and you will become extremely wealthy beyond all your wildest imagination.
Rich in what matters to God.
Remember

How are you funding all these (Jerry Savelle's ministry)? Well, I just trust God…I give and I trust God to give me the return of it. Does it work? I'm not wealthy, and I'm still believing to pay off my business debts so it doesn't put a burden on my ministry but it puts food on the table. - this guy who asked him this became the first partner in Jerry Savelle's ministry
